How millenial are you?

If you are older like me and want to find out how “millennial” you are, here is a simple survey of 14 questions from the Pew Research Center. I found this survey at Free Technology for Teachers, a great resource that I have shared before.

Well, I’d like to say I’m pretty close to being like a millennial, but my score would suggest I am just where my age puts me, a baby boomer. It must be the lack of a tattoo, or reading the newspaper, or . . . Try it out; it only takes a couple minutes.

Oh, my score was 25 and I thought I had adopted much of what millenials do. How did you do? Does your score match your chronological age?

Well my score was 31 which put in Baby Boomer when I really am in the middle of Gen X. Very interesting survey, definitely not what I thought it would turn out to be.

I'm at 67. With my generation (Gen Xers) being at 33 and Millenials being at 73 my score places me much closer to being like a Millenial than a Gen Xer.

I scored a 28, which is pretty close to my birthdate. I think not having a cell phone killed me. :-)

My score was 65. I was born in '78 so the survey put me right behind the Millennial (b. 1981+, score of 73). Looks like I'm right where I should be. Scott, what happened!?

91/100. I'm 27.

I think it was the not being fb/twitter friends with a government official that got me. I'll have to get on that.

Christine, I do not text and I have a landline. Those are two biggies I think.

I scored a 70. (I can only imagine my score once I get that tattoo!) I am a solid Gen X'er chronologically. Having two Millennials in the house certainly helps keeping me on the millenial edge. (They are the ones I text with.)

My score was 5! 5! :) and I did it twice, once when you first posted it and again just now. I am on Facebook, I have a cell phone...
Did I get negative points for not having piercings or tattoos, for being religious and conservative, because my parents have been married almost 40 years?
5?!?!?!

Interesting. I had 5 of my high school students take the survey and they scored 90, 67, 84, 92, and 89.

Interestingly, the first thing out of each of their mouths when they saw their score was "What does that mean? What does it mean to be Millennial?"

And I had to respond that I wasn't really sure. I guess that's what the survey is telling us? And that I think it means that it's measuring how "modern" or "technological" we are? Not sure.

I'm surprised I scored 63; not bad for a Baby Boomer! Probably owe most of my score to the iphone I purchased just over a month ago (no more land line; emerging texter). Maybe I should get a tattoo and eyebrow piercing to really go Millenial...then again, maybe NOT!

I am 87!
I was very surprised and actually confused! Having kids from 20 to 11 is probably what helped me. Guess my husband was right - I don't need the tattoo...

Apparently, I am millennial with a score of 90. However, Generation X by Douglas Coupland is still one of my favorite books. I believe my stimulus driven (ADHD) brain is key to my high score as I am always curious about anything new and different in technology.

I scored a 54, putting me in solid GenX territory where I belong. On the other hand, my husband's score was a 7! And he works in a technological field, which seems ironic. No wonder he thinks it would have been fun to live in the '50s... :)

I was really hesitant to post my paltry score of "8," as I felt this placed me somewhere between CroMagnon and Neanderthal. As a Boomer growing up in the 60's it's even worse to be close to the Silent generation. Thought I had at least moderate tech skills and was a bit more progressive than this suggests. It did, however make me reflect on a few things: 1) I really don't need the land line at home, 2) In our system, why don't we use Facebook and other social media to recruit Millenial staff? On the other hand 1) I'm okay with having little to do with video games, and 2) given the choice between texting and talking voice to voice, I much prefer the latter . . LOL, Ha Ha.

How depressing, but predictable! I got a 33, my husband got a 52 and my 15 year old daughter got an 88. I guess I am at par with my actual age, I just thought I was a little more hip! Denial is not just a river in Egypt :)
